Advice re: upgrade on O2 refresh

Anonymous
Not applicable
Hi

I own an iPhone 6 16gb on O2 refresh , it's a £47 a month contract that I still owe £240 for as per the divided refresh contract.

I want to upgrade to a 6s. The refresh contract wording is unclear. I am also looking to recycle my 6 at the same time (£237), so should roughly break even.

With this upgrade,Can I essentially continue on my current contract for 24 months and get a 6s free?

or do I need to start a NEW contract ? (Which may include a further hefty extra charge for the new device )? I currently get unlimited data/texts and 20gb data at present, for the same price on 6s contracts you get a lot less data.

Thanks

Good call Rich. I have just seen the edit. I never had a Refresh contract so it was difficult for me to answer with confidence. Now I can just link up happily to the FAQ thread. wink

I have about 4 payments to go before my Refresh is finished.  Not so sure that I want to commit to another 24 months though. Especially if it doesn't used factory firmware.

Thanks guys just debating if the 30gb option is worth it. It is essentially a 12 month contract , the free buyout out of the device plan with a trade in seems attractive , however if you opted for a cheaper contract you could trade a 6s in for 200-300 quid anyway on a refresh contract and upgrade normally at the end of the contract. I think it works out minimally different. If I held onto the 6 I could still get 150-200 for it at trade off in 1 year (I got 180 for my iPhone 5 8gb at 2 years last year with O2).

Not sure what your feelings are with regards to this 30gb option ? Also 30gb is a lot of data, I have 20, regularly stream videos and use spotify and have never used all of It up.

It's the same as always - It may suit some people, but not all.
You need to look at your own usage and do the math, as they say slight_smile

To use 30GB you would have to be a very heavy user. Your average smartphone customer would never get near that but it suits some people. You probably don't want or need it. Your choice tbh and not something we can advise on....

With the "free" upgrade dependant on trade in, I wonder if the usual devaluations will come into play, for me, that would be a very negative point.

It doesn't matter what the recycle prices are. O2 have guaranteed the trade in value up front.
