As if we haven't got enough to do.... however, I want the best advice during this current crisis.

Grandson's 2 year contract on O2 via CPW is due to expire May 20th (paid by me)

He now has a Note 10 bought outright so wants a sim only contract from O2

Does he cancel his contract with O2, if so when?

Or does he upgrade to a sim only with O2 DIRECT or do CPW do sim only?

(I've already had an email via CPW stating 10 weeks to go)

A nice step by step guide would be nice and helpful.

Thanks guys.

@Cleoriff

He can just upgrade himself in his MyO2 if you are decided on doing it through O2.

No need to call, change sims, migrate numbers etc. It will just be an upgrade which will become available from May 20th.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)

Depends who has the better deal at the time really @Cleoriff.
There are also the others - mobiles.co.uk & mobilephonesdiret.co.uk - to consider.
Mobiles were doing a 20Gb sim for £20 with cashback when I last looked...

Hi. Cleoriff. Because the contract was taken via CPW, it’s best to let this run until the very end. Once this has been done, if he wants a SIMO in his name. Simply take out a SIMO of his choice and then do a transfer of ownership, if he wishes to keep his old number. Once transfers of ownership has been done. Your old DD will be cancelled off automatically.

He wants at least 50GB @gmarkj  so I know I can get a good deal elsewhere.

However, it was the timing of everything I need to get clear in my head.

Currently he has set up the Note 10 and using his old contract sim in that phone...but May 20th, that contract ends and I'm certainly not wanting it to roll over at £38 per month. Fear

@Cleoriff

Search for the best simo deal across all platforms.

O2 currently 100gb for £25 / 18 months but check others.

If taking simo direct from O2, just upgrade the current contract to simo.

If getting a deal from elsewhere, CPW for example, just call CS to migrate his old number when you have purchased to new sim.

@O2Heather , thanks for that. However the contract will remain in my name (christmas and birthday present combined) He is at Uni so a chance of him getting credit is zilch.

@MI5Do CPW have sim only deals? Must admit I haven't looked but didn't think they did?

Also I don't actually need to cancel the contract, just upgrade?

Re timing, if contract ends May 20th, when should I start doing all this?

Yes, CPW do simo deals.

If you're doing an upgrade you need to do it as close to May 20th that you can.

@MI5  Thanks. Final question. If upgrading to simo, will he be able to use the same sim, just the tariff will change?

Same sim.

If it's an upgrade it will change automatically but if you need to take a new deal to get the best offers, just call to migrate the number.
