You can't add a handset. You will need to take a new full contract with phone and airtime or buy a handset outright from elsewhere like Amazon, Argos etc and out your sim in it.
A new contract will also mean cancelling your current sim if you wish to keep your number, which may result in early termination fees.

Indeed, but it will still be a new airtime tariff, just "adding" a handset isn't an option either way.
