I have recently discovered the following billing on my phone.  I don't know the number and with no record of me calling the number left on my log.  I am now £11.25 out of pocket.

 

Question 1:  Has anyone else been stung with this?

Question 2:  What does O2 do about it and will they reimburse?

O2 may refund you but don't have to although they have done with me in the past

Nothing to do with o2 use the regulator as advised many have had refunds via them.

No harm at all but unless they end the subscription charges will be reincurring @ £4.50/week.

Reading this tread made me look into how I can protect myself from these scams, and it seems that whilst some networks can offer you a premium SMS bar on your account (albeit from a blacklist), o2 don't offer the service.  If someone from o2 is reading, please insist that such a service is much needed - 99.99999% of people out there simply aren't interested in premium rate SMS services.

 

Seems crazy in this day and age where you have to go through so much security to spend a few quid on a credit card online, enter passwords before spending 60p on an appstore, or agree to massive terms and conditions before accepting a direct debit with a cooling off period applied, that a bogus app or kiddy can commit to tens of pounds a month by sending a simple SMS.

O2 offer an outgoing premium call bar the same as most other networks, you may well have made an enquiry somewhere and mistakenly given them your number, O2 cannot stop that.

 

Barring reception of these texts may come in time, but for now using PhonePay Plus is the solution as they will take action and can help you recover any costs, O2 cannot do this.

 

Sending "a simple sms" to a company can be fraught with problems and we have to take responsibility for our own actions!
