The transfer from old phone to new went smoothly (eSIM), but 2 hours after the process was complete I got an sms saying “just confirming your order has gone through, we’ve now removed your 5G access bolt on”
What is this all about? I’ve made no changes to my o2 account or tariff.

Standard makes no sense message when O2 updates your tariff.
The Vodafone equally confusing message for the same process is that they have turned off your wifi calling, so don't panic.

O2 Customer services told me that my physical SIM had 5G as a Bolt on. As I had changed to an eSIM 5G is “built in” and therefore the 5G Bolt On is removed as part of the change.

That sounds like a load of BS from Customer Services as all contract sims have been 5G for years...
I have an o2 esim and it has the 5G bolton.
I would take what @MI5 has said to be the answer...

BS from O2 customer services? Surely not…., 😁

My 5G Access bolt-on was added in Dec-2022, and I am on a physical SIM which was changed at least once since. The SMS saying I had "5G Access" added to my tariff came on 16-May-2022. Last upgrade was Nov-2024.
Not sure why they are removing what is a "FREE" bolt-on tbh.

Just going to check my bolt on's online and the first time I've been met with this:
What the hell....?

From one of our iPhones still on a physical SIM. O2 customer service might well be on to something.
