3rd party contract and handset

I got a new o2 contract 4 months ago via mobileshop. The handset came directly from samsung which I have paid for and am making no further payments to samsung for.

The o2 price hike means I could cancel my airtime and leave penalty free. There is no device plan showing on my o2 account just airtime.

However my understanding is that when you take a 3rd party contract out the handset provider receives a proportion of your airtime for the length of the contract to cover the discounted handset.

The weird thing is on my o2 account if I go into the upgrade part it says I owe £xxx.xx for the device before I can upgrade but I have no device plan!

Samsung have toldme I can keep the handset as it was on promotion.

Mobileshop aren't sure and when I phoned o2 the didn't know but said I could cancel without penalty.

I don't want to cancel and then be handed a massive bill for the phone.

Anyone else similar experience?

@Kathie1404

I would get Mobileshop to contact o2 and get an answer for you.

As when you buy from a 3rd party, the bill is all bundled as one, so this is for you to cancel the contract, so we have heard that some 3rd parties will come after you for the handset some wont.

I would also speak to o2 direct Guide: How to find help & contact O2

This is not customer services and we dont have access to your account
I do not work for o2 or any VMo2 /Telefonica/Liberty Global Company
