1st bill payment only 2 weeks after i begun the contract?

i have just started an O2 contract (2 days ago) and have already received a bill for the month - which is due on the 16th august. I don't understand what i am being billed for, surely it should be at the end of the month? also i have gone over my tarrif in 2 days and i don't see how....

Your first bill is always about 2 days after joining and is pro rata (extra days before) you actually pay 1 month in advance for line rebtal and boltons and then get charged for any chargeable calls at the end of the month on next months bill.
