Hi again I have a question. I recently upgraded with 02 and had to pay off the device plan for the contract, as still had a year to go and then upgraded. But now have decided to cancel the upgrade. What then happens, does 02 then refund me the money I paid for the device plan and the plan reverts back?

Hi @marvi0

This is the 14 day change of mind policy.

https://www.o2.co.uk/help/phones-sims-and-devices/our-change-of-mind-policy

You money will be returned, less any airtime you have used.

You won't revert back to your original plan if that no longer exists.

You have a few choices

1) Take out a sim only plan to use with your old device

2) Take out a new contract with a different device and airtime

3) Move to a different network.

You can discuss your options with O2, either by calling Guide: Coronavirus Community Help and Support or going instore as the shops are now open.

Have read that link and this section confuses me a bit "If you return your order within 14 days, we’ll give you back all the payments you’ve made, apart from any buy-out fee from your previous contract or any express delivery charges."
Does this mean I won't get back the £400 I paid to pay off my device and then upgrade?

That is correct, the £400 was to pay off the device in your old contract, meaning the phone is now yours, think of it as paying off a loan early, so you won't get that money back if you change your mind on the upgrade, but if you choose a SIM only plan it will mean your monthly payments are cheaper going forward. Hope this helps

No it doesn't mean that.

The buy out fee means if O2 bought out your previous contract, which they did recently with customers who came from a third party seller like Carphone Warehouse.

If YOU paid your device off yourself, it's yours to keep.

@O2Tracey

The Op said they paid off the device themself in their first post.

Therefore it's theirs to keep.

Thanks guys still confused, so if I paid the device amount and cancel the upgrade, does that then mean I get back the device amount I paid as I want to revert back to the previous contract?. Sorry for sounding thick.

As I said @marvi0  IF YOU paid off your old device in full it's yours to keep. Please refer to my posts. Thanks.

There is nothing to be confused about. thumbsup

You're not sounding thick here. I'm as well confused on what's going on 😂.

I don't know much about upgrading as I haven't done some myself. But I do believe that when you upgrade, you pay of your previous contract in full hence the phone of the previous contract is yours. So if you decide to cancel the upgrade I don't think they will refund you any money, since you've settled of your debt earlier. So all you have to do is to take a SIM only contract to keep you going.

I hope this little helps
