02 poor data connection in a 4G area

My 02 sim is 5G I have none in my home area even on 4G I only get 1mb download speed infact my upload is 2mb I'm wanting to tether to my home network but at this speed it's impossible I have unlimed data is there some additional settings to increase my speed my son has EE and gets 48- 86 mb with the phone sat next to me ?

EE and o2 run on completely different masts, so it could be that the EE mast is closer, different bands than o2 are using. 

Do you even have 5G coverage?
