02 customer for years, but welcomed as new customer

I've been an 02 customer for more years than I care to remember.  Until a couple of weeks ago I had a very old 2G mobile phone on an 02 PAYG 'your country' contract and in past 5-6 years have also gone through a succession of smartphones on a separate 02 pay monthly number.  I finally bought a second smartphone and switched my PAYG to a second 02 pay monthly contract.  02 had sent me a replacement SIM card of a suitable size for the switch to smartphone, but the 02 shop created another and said the one I'd been sent would never have worked.  Since then, I've been bombarded with 'welcome new customer' emails from 02.  What is going on?

I'd call customer service to check how many accounts have been set up.

You may find you have more contracts than you need.

This is a customer community not O2.
