My daughter purchased iphoneSE with 24mth contract on 24/6/16 from a wellknown shop. She explained she would need to unlock it for a few weeks to put in local sim card as she would be in africa on research project and they gave her online ref. to complete form. When she requested unlock online , o2 replied 'we are currently not unlocking the iphone se' .When queried on the CS chat line they said they had a notification from apple 1st week in July that they could not unblock the iphone se. No reason given. I phoned Apple CS and they said it is the carrier/network which unlocks the phone, and was not aware of any notification. Back at o2 on the phone this time, they  had to check my query and then repeated they could not unlock the iphone se. Has anyone had this problem? it sounds a bit like  some of the above queries. thanks!

The old story I'm afraid with the latest Apple releases. They don't unlock them for 6-9 months unless the handset has been paid off in full.

You could try emailing a complaint, all the better if you have a transcript of the chat.

Thank you so much for your comments. If Apple do not allow new models to be unlocked for 6-9 mths why does o2 CS chat line not say that?!   I  will get back to Apple to see if they will confirm this. Also the CPW she bought the iphone SE  and O2 contract from would have known this when they sold it to her. Instead they gave her  instructions on how to unlock it online with O2!  I  also phoned their CS but they say she cannot change the phone. Of course we are dealing with 3 different companies none of whom wants to take responsibility for informing customers of terms and conditions, and meanwhile customer learns the hard way.

So she cannot use her phone while in Africa. The reason she especially wanted to put in a local sim card, apart from that it is much cheaper , is that everytime she switches the phone on several text charges go onto her account which she has not made . All to 07802000332.   Should I post this story under another category?

It's an O2 policy - nothing to do with Apple.
