Default and no one to help!

Having recently applied for a mortgage, it has been brought to my attention that there is a default that sits on my file from o2 for the Princely sum of £22!

A month ago I began the process of trying to contact the illusive credit file referrals team, a mythical department that obviously exists, somewhere between reality and fantasy... Having failed after numerous emails to reach this department, I then escalated my issue to o2 complaints! This department too, seems to share an office with the magical, mystical credit file referrals team.

Two weeks later I was still waiting for a reply or even a small sign that these people exist yet nothing!

Not to be deterred I then emailed the almighty Complaint Review Service, a body so powerful that not even the lowly people of credit referral town could ignore their wrath, or so you would think. Yet another 2 weeks has passed, my mortgage slips ever further away and there is no one from o2 to be seen or heard.

While I am being flippant about this whole episode, I am also amazed that an organisation as big and as proud as o2 can be so inept. You may not be able to help me remove this default, which, in all reality has been placed there by mistake and for such a small amount, mistake or not, can hardly be deemed a suitable or a morally fair outcome for such a small amount, mistakingly not paid (at worse) by a loyal and longstanding customer.

I shall now resort to the power of social media to try to get someone to engage with me over this matter and to try to get this issue resolved so that my family and me can get a fair deal to buy the home we deserve.

Why not just escalate to the ombudsman?
Probably quicker that way.

Sad to say but there are many such posts on here for ridiculous amounts. Whether it's been placed in error or by simple oversight by yourself, only those filing it can remove it.... which is where your problem lies.

Google CEO O2, place a notice of correction on your file and hopefully someone will see fit to remove the default.

This whole default situation is getting out of hand.

@Anonymous you can dispute directly with the credit reference agencies and add a notice of correction to put over your side. Lenders are obliged to take this into account when making credit decisions.

It might also be worth trying the complaint through Resolver - it is a new tool to help resolve issues and seems to have helped a number of others so far.

Hi all, thank you for your replies.

I think it's shameful that there simply isn't just a human to speak to regarding this. This is causing my wife and me untold stress and for £22!

Anyway, thank you again and I will follow the advice above.

@Anonymous have they told you / do you know why it has been placed on your file?

Have you ever missed a payment or not paid on time for a bill?

As far as I am aware, when i left the property I paid the last payment, but wether there was £22 outstanding I just don't know. My forwarding address was left, mail re-directed etc. but i never heard anything. If I had received a bill I would have paid it straight away, £22 isn't the sort of debt one runs from. Anyway, if genuinely owed it that's fair enough, my fault! The problem is, getting someone to discuss it with me and there seems to be no quick route to that. Also, customer services could find no record of me ever having an outstanding balance. All a bit of a mystery...

Thank you

Quick update... The default has now been removed from my file. A very helpful lady contacted me and at the next update the default was removed and account showed as settled. Thank you again for all of your advice.
