why cant i ring an 0800 number for free on my 02 phone

i thought 0800 numbers were free to ring from all mobile networks, am i wrong cuz i cant from this 02 phone

Yes 0800 numbers are free to call.

its s straight forward uk free phone number, its my bank, iv got no credit in my phone and when i ring it puts me through to the 02 top up line

That should work but try 024 7655 5255 as an alternative number.

It's likely you need credit to make a free call on O2 !

Years ago we used to have to drop the first 0 so also try just dialing 8001218899

I think that's the issue alright - without credit, no call will be carried, even free ones.  Unless you're in an O2 Family group, of course.

You definitely need credit on O2 even though the number is free. I'm sure it's the same on all networks, it certainly is on Three and EE, not sure about Vodafone.
