i would like to tranfer my mobile number which is a very old nokia 3220 and does not have a SIM card to a galaxy tab J3 - can this be done ?

It must have a sim card, that's what gives you your phone number.

You would need to get a sim card to fit the J3 and do a sim swap.

Or go instore and ask an O2 member of staff to do it for you.
