purchased a basic o2 SIM for a housebound person, added £15.00 of credit, charged me £17.84 not sure why
added to phone went to add contacts found out balance £5.00 due to the bundle.
after chatting to o2 customer services found out would have to top up £10 monthly to keep phone going.
she is not interested in unlimited this or that it is a phone for emergencies only.
what a waste, off to get another SIM, not o2, who can offer a basic PAYG SIM

Hi @MarkA
Welcome to the Community :
It is difficult to get a sim now that doesn't require a monthly payment. O2 do not do the Classic anymore.
It would be better to encourage the person to make a call now and then, have a chat occasionally and use the mobile. Have a friend or relative give them a call too.
Find the cheapest call rate and check the coverage (I expect you will). I believe that the landline as we know it, will be coming to an end, in the not too distant future, so a good mobile, network and cheap as possible calls would be the best option (in my opinion). Even the Classic O2 required a chargeable call every 6 months and a top up occasionally to keep the sim active which was difficult to remember.
Good Luck I hope you find a good sim and best of wishes TallTrees
