@Sir_Goose Because everyone is issued the same PIN. If your phone was lost or stolen, someone could access your voicemail if they tried the O2 issued one. You need to change it to make it unique to you, just like an ATM PIN.

I DO NOT WORK FOR O2

The voicemail PIN is only required to access your voicemails remotely. Once set, you have to reset it after 30 days of no use.
As said above, it's for security purposes.
