Hi,

Hope to find you well!

I bought a PAYG O2 smartphone 7 years ago from an o2 shop.

How do i unlock it from o2?

I have the IMEI number of it.

@24vtingle An O2 shop will not unlock it for you. Use the guide provided above to unlock the phone with an O2 Pay & Go sim. The new sim will have its own phone number. That's your best option.

Thanks, please do you have the website that i will need to go to when i buy the £10 o2 top up?

Please could you paste it here?

Also, i am not sure what a mobile phone "App" is?...do they cost money?...d'you mean i have to download an "o2 phone unlocking app" or something?

You were right, the O2 shop refused to unlock the phone for me, even though i had paper receipt as proof of purchase. Plus i had my ID with me.

If i buy a £10 PAYG "Bundle", can i be sure that O2 will not automatically deduct money from my bank account after the first month is up?

@24vtingle

I gave you the link to set up your MyO2 already My O2

There is also a free app. https://www.o2.co.uk/apps/my-o2

You top up as you wish, so if you just want one top up to use the phone to register it, that's all you'll pay Guide How to Top Up (PAYG)

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Thanks, i am on myo2 on my laptop, and there is nowhere
to unlock a smartphone which is locked to o2?
Also, please could you send a screen shot of the o2 app
which deals with unlocking smartphones from o2?
(I cant download apps to my laptop)

May i please ask , Is there seriously an App by o2 which allows people to unlock their smartphone from o2?

Alternatively, if i pay £11.99 with expessunlocks.com i can pay on google pay (i think i can use google pay via my laptop?). Do you know if expressunlocks is trustworthy. Do you know of any unlock site that is trustworthy?

I see the bit on the o2 website where it says if i am on PAYG i can phone a number to ask o2 to unlock......but if i buy this £10 o2  PAYG  thing, then what will my phone number be?...the original phone number was taken away years ago. I mean, will my phone be able to actually use a £10 PAYG SIM card now?

@24vtingle

There is no app to specifically unlock a phone. No one here has told you that.

The request, through your MyO2, was akways under device details, but as I don't have a PAYG sim, I can't give you a screenshot. It may not even show unless you have a locked phone registered anyway.

If necessary, once you have used the phone on O2, just call O2 on 4445 and ask them to unlock it.

As I have already also said, a new sim will come with a new number, so forget anything related to the old number.

Finally, I have no experience with unlocking websites, so cannot comment either way.

Thanks, i was going to order a £10 PAYG  SIM on the O2 site, but i will get it  quicker if the o2 shop will sell me one. (post comes to my flat block and then they take 2 days or so to sort it)

Do you think an o2 shop will sell a £10 PAYG SIM to me?

Your best bet and I think this has been mentioned before, is to take the phone to any independent mobile phone shop or market stall and ask them to unlock it. They have experience of unlocking phones.

Then you'll be able to use whatever sim you like.
