Hi,

Hope to find you well!

I bought a PAYG O2 smartphone 7 years ago from an o2 shop.

How do i unlock it from o2?

I have the IMEI number of it.

Thanks, but nothing on that link works....the links lead nowhere.

This smartphone is not on a network any more.

They seem to have discontinued the form now

You will need to get an O2 PAYG sim, top up £10 and use it to make some calls

Then either:

Register for My O2 app and unlock from there

Or call customer service

Thanks, how much does an O2 PAYG SIM cost? Also, because i havent used the phone for years, its  not registered to a network, so the PAYG SIM wont work? The phone number it originally came with will have been allocated to someone else now. I bought this phone on 22/05/2018 at Southampton O2 shop

@24vtingle

Have you actually checked if it's locked?

O2 stopped selling locked phones in April 2018.

If it is, an O2 PAYG sim is free but you will need to top up with £10 to register and use it.

Are you sure it's locked. Have you tried a working SIM from another network? Borrow if needs be. Always worth a shot before spending out

Also it may be worth going to one of the mobile repair places that do unlocking to see what they charge

This is not O2 and we are all customers here similar to yourself and cannot answer account type queries.

Thanks its deffo locked to o2 and says thsi when i put my EE sim in

“INVALID SIM CARD

NETWORK LOCKED SIM CARD INSERTED”

I bought it on 22nd May 2018 in Southampton o2 shop.....maybe it had been in stock from before April 2018.

If i buy a £10 topup, is that a garanteed way of unlocking it from o2?.....is there like an o2 app i can go on which specifically will unlock it from o2. If i buy the top up i dont think it would be of any use because it doesnt have a phone number any more....i havent used it for 5 years.

What would happen if i took it to an o2 shop and asked them to unlock it?

@24vtingle

The new sim you get will have a new number which you need to top up yo use the phone and register it on the network.

You then use the MyO2 app or website to request the unlock process which O2 have to do.
