I have purchased a pay as you go sim today from an 02 store got home and inserted it into my old brick Nokia I use for work and it says insert a valid sim, I know that the phone is not locked to a network could it be it takes 24 hours for connection or should I go into the store for help?

The sim should still give you a network signal even without credit so it's either faulty, inserted incorrectly or the phone is faulty.
Try sim in a different phone to see if it's a phone or sim issue?

@Path the sim needs a top up first to activate. You need to buy a top up voucher for the first top up on a new sim
