Pay as you go bundle - keeping Uk number

Hi, I recently moved abroad and swapped my  pay monthly to pay as you go sim - bundle the £10 one.

I did this as I want to keep my UK number so I was told as long as I use it once in 6 months that will be fine but I am confused with whether I have to top up the phone with £10 monthly even though I won’t be using it? or can I top it up once and then send a message or phone someone to keep it going once in that 6 months?

I went to top up today to check and I added £10 on to it but then it still says my balance is 0 so I’m not sure what I am doing wrong.

Any help would be great, thank you!

All info about Big Bundles here https://www.o2.co.uk/help/pay-as-you-go/big-bundles

If you run out before your anniversary date, it's pointless topping up again. You would need to buy a bolt on which is expensive (This would carry you through to the anniversary date. ..ie before you top up again)

I would suggest you need a bigger bundle if you run out constantly, or even a sim only contract which would stop this issue re-occuring. https://www.o2.co.uk/termsandconditions/mobile/big-bundles-terms-and-conditions

You dont have any worries about topping up to keep number active.

Some Sim only tariffs here Sim Only Tariffs (you can choose 30 days, 12 or 24 months.)

You get a wider range of EU countries to travel for free.

Best of luck whatever you choose @_char21 xx

Your bundle charge is a monthly charge, it disappears after 30 days, regardless of whether or not you use the phone.

One chargeable call every 6 months is the quoted usage I see here most often - which worked well in the days of Classic PAYG, now no longer offered by O2.

You probably would have been better off switching to a low SIMO contract for 6 or 8pounds per month to keep your number without all this "make a chargeable call" and "top-up to make a call" malarkey, @_char21.

Or swapping to a different company than O2 that offers cheaper PAYG, and porting your number to them to keep it. Not great news, but then O2 keep moving the goalposts, so may other providers.

Hi thanks for coming back to my comment, so would I need to top this up monthly at £10 to keep my number or would one time over the 6 months be fine?

where I added another £10 this morning it shows my balance is 0 so I can’t make a call or text which I have no idea why?

1p Mobile would give you a year for £30. A lot cheaper than £10 per month (£120 pa)

This is not O2 and we are all customers here similar to yourself and cannot answer account type queries.
