I am on old o2 classic tariff from 2018.  Voice mail was disabled from day one.

Today, I keep receiving 'Voicemail - Dial 901' text message every time I power cycle my Moto G62 phone.

I tried dialling 901, and also attempted to activate voice mail 1750 (and deactivate 1760) but all they do is take me the o2 PAYG topups system.

fwiw, I notice 5G and wifi calling became available about a week ago.  I disabled 4G and wifi calling but the 'Dial 901' message still reappear after I restart the phone.

Anyone else with this issue?

Upon reading the advice, I moved the o2 sim to a nokia 105 (GSM only) and Redmi Note 9 (4G).

I see the voicemail icon appear on the 105's status bar....

Mystery solved.

I have no idea how voicemail was activated.

I activated voicemail with 1750 using the nokia and set up a new PIN. Retrieved and deleted the message. The voicemail icon on the nokia 105 disappeared.  Then disabled voicemail with 1760.

No more Dial 901 message when I turn on my moto G62 with o2 sim.

@Bill_uk

It is similair to the Visual Voicemail messages on reboot on some pixel phones, and can be down to how the software interacts on reboot with the network.

Make sure Visual Voicemail on the phone is switched off, if it is you will need to contact o2 Guide: How to find help & contact O2

This is not customer services and we dont have access to your account
I do not work for o2 or any VMo2 /Telefonica/Liberty Global Company

Nothing else reported on here so far @Bill_uk

Resetting your network settings may help?
