I'm trying to get a 4G SIM to get data access via a router.

As per: https://community.o2.co.uk/t5/Pay-As-You-Go/4G-SIM-for-router-Broadband-backup/m-p/1595242 I bought a 12GB SIM (I went in an O2 shop and bought it)

I put it in the router I bought:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09X3HRBZQ

But it wont connect to the Internet.

If I try the SIM from my mobile phone (monthly contract SIM), it works fine using the premade O2 monthly profile that the router uses.

I used these settings on the profile for the PAYG SIM

  • Name: O2 PAYG
  • APN: payandgo.o2.co.uk
  • Username: payandgo
  • Password: password
  • Authentification Type: PAP

I also tried CHAP for the Authentication type, but neither work. The router just tries and fails to connect to the internet.

Could there be a reason the PAYG SIM I bought isnt fully enabled or something?

Thanks for your help. I tried various options, including the preset SIM profiles on the router (which worked for my contract SIM).

In the end what worked was using a custom profile, but changing it so that the "APN Type" was set to Dynamic rather than a fixed value like payandgo.o2.co.uk

For my other (contract) SIM, this preset profile worked

Here is the preset PAYG profile that doesnt work.

@biscuits99

Try changing the apn name to o2 mobile web
