New sim want to keep old number

I got my son a new sim back in Feb time he has since lost his phone I ordered a new sim but want to keep the old number. Can't get through on the phones and through fb messenger they said I failed the security check of the old sim. Tried to explain I don't have the phone to check the details. Is there any other way I can do this?!

Call O2 and report the sim lost. They will seems you a new sim with the same number

That's the issue everytime I phone I get the automated response, tell them need to report a lost phone told Il be transferred to an agent only for the line to cut off. Iv spent the last 4 days trying to get through

Choose any option but there is an option to report list of stolen. 

@MI5 @MI5 will give you the other method of getting to speak to someone.

I have but it rings 3 times then the automated voice comes on again saying they can not take the call right now to go on to the o2 website and look at the help section then cuts straight off. I'm well aware due to covid the call centres aren't the way they were but I don't mind holding but to cut the call off it's frustrating

Advice from an O2 Guru regarding a way to get through:

If you call 202, when it comes to the reason you are calling, stay silent for 15 seconds and you will be taken to the keypad options.

Press 2 for Everything Else

Press 5 for More Options

Press 7 for Anything Else which will put you though to someone.
