I have purchased a pay as you go sim and the retentions team arranged to keep my nr. It would take 24 hours. Only that this was 10 days ago. Nothing happened and it has been hours on hold and getting cut off since. After much research the only solution has been to cancel the direct debit and loose my nr. Goodbye O2

So did you cancel your o2 contract as if not then cancelling the Direct Debit is the worst thing you could have done, as you will have a final bill to pay..
Have a look at these guides Guide: Cancelling Your Contract Guide: Migration & porting into O2
I do not work for o2 or any VMo2 /Telefonica/Liberty Global Company
