Does a Pay As You Go number expire with a 0 balance or will it continue to receive text messages?

When I was in the UK I got an O2 Pay As You Go SIM card and did not top it up at all. All I need it for is to receive text messages. No calls or text sending necessary.

- Question is - with a zero balance over time, will my O2 number expire?

- Assuming it doesn't ever expire, will it continue to be able to receive text messages or is there a time limit on that with a zero balance?

- Assuming there is no limit on the ability to continue receiving text with a zero balance, does that also hold true when abroad?

Right now I am abroad and am able to receive text messages with a zero balance. Does anyone know if this is a permanent feature, or will it end at some point?

It will be disconnected after 6 months if you do not top up and make a call.

You need to make a call every 6 months to keep it active.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)
