Yes, you will need a 5g sim. Any O2 store will swap your sim for free.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)

I am looking to get a second family SIM on my contract. Initially it will be used in an iPhone SE (early version), which is a 4G phone. However that SE will be replaced with an iPhone 12 Mini in November, which is a 5G phone.

Should I ask for a 5G iPhone SIM, if so will it work OK in a non 5G iPhone? Or should I ask for a 4G SIM and swap it once the phone arrives?

I really do not understand why O2 have iPhone specific SIMs and further complicate matters with 4G and 5G SIMs!

@Woody53

A 5G sim will work in a 4G phone but you will only ever get 4G.

All O2 sims are now 5G capable but will only give you 5G if you are using a 5G phone and are in a 5G area.

You will have no problem using the sim in either phone if you remember what I have posted above wink

@Woody53 There are no specific iPhone sims.

Pnly different account bolt ons.

Any O2 sim will work in any phone but without the iPhone bolt on, some specific iPhone features won't work. And yes, it is a nonsense as it's not required by any other network.
