Can I receive my bank's OTP text message from the UK while I'm in India? I noticed last time that I received some text messages from UK while there.

All depends on the local network, as OTP;s are not guaranteed for delivery whilst roaming.

Thanks for info. Do you mean that they are supposed to get through but sometimes don't?  I would normally switch over to my local SIM in India but leave the UK SIM still switched on in my dual-SIM phone with the Roaming switched off. Is that the correct way?

SMS is ancient technology from the mid 1990's. It's also not a secure way of messaging and banks have been told to move off it. Thankfully, both my banks have

Receiving SMS whilst roaming is no different to receiving SMS whilst in the UK. The message handling is done by your home-UK network not the network you're connected to - which is just used to deliver the text in the same way as they deliver roaming calls to you.

It's just as secure a method abroad as in the UK.

Thanks. I would have to leave it on Roaming to receive from the UK (O2) or would it still come through if Roaming was switched off? If I leave Roaming on in India then my balance is wiped out immediately!

SMS is not secure by any means and the FCA have told the banks to get off it asap but the banks like it as its cheap and nasty, and SMS is not a delivery guaranteed method of communication (never has been).

@sparkyA1

You can turn data off and still be able to receive SMS and then your credit shouldn't disappear

Hi, Just to clarify please, do you mean leave Roaming on and switch data off or switch both Roaming and data off? Thanks.
