Hello everyone,

Can I please ask you for your wisdom?

I am intersted in buying an UN-locked Blackberry 9720 phone, whic
is on an O2 system.

Can I please ask you if that means that I can easily put in an 02 Pay-As-You-Go SIM card
WITHOUT having to unlock the phone?

I mostly want to use this for its WIFI so I can connect to FREE Wifi in my area. Does anyone
else do this and so know it works well?

A Big Thanks for your help.

Yes an O2 PAYG sim will work fine in it but you will struggle to get email due to the requirement for BIS which is no longer in mainstream support.
General internet browsing will work fine though on wifi.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)

Hi @Eve1275 You can buy any unlocked phone and use any network sim in it.

Also O2 WiFi is available as shown here https://www.o2.co.uk/connectivity/free-wifi

I know from our previous chats that you need a phone to use on wifi, but why a Blackberry, may I ask?
You would be much better off to get a more mainstream device these days.

Hi MI5

Thanks again for your wisdom.

I just got the chance of a cheap Blackberry, but it is locked so

I very much appreciate the email advice, as I need email too.

I really want a very cheap phone, so I will continue looking in the

usual on-line personal ads.

Thanks again and good-bye till next time.

(Thanks too to Cleoriff for your advice).

There should be a good choice of a year or two old android phones at reasonable prices.
Just ask before you jump into any purchase.

Hi again MI5

Sorry for this afterthought question …

About the BIS non support does it affect getting email like Yahoo email or only the Blackberry's own email system?

Would using Yahoo be ok?

Thanks again from Eve

It's been many years since I had a BB so I've forgotten most of it relating to them now, but I believe it will affect any email service unless you access it through the web browser.
But in all honesty, you don't want a BB anyway. There are much better options.
