Hi,

at the moment i am a pay monthly contract user, in may my contract is up and the phone is mine. I then want to go onto a sim only plan however the deals offered by 02 are not as good as those offered by Uswitch.

So i plan to get the deal i want from Uswitch which is also an 02 sim, however i want to continue using the number i have now. When i get the new 02 sim only sim from uswitch do i still need to get a pac code even though i am technically not leaving 02? can i not just call them and sort it that way?

thanks

No PAC necessary

Use USwitch just before your contract end date

https://www.uswitch.com/mobiles/compare/sim_only_deals/o2/

Choose the deal you want

This will automatically redirect you to the O2 website

Just follow the prompts and choose the UPGRADE option

Don't request a new sim card

Complete the deal and nothing on your account changes except the tariff at the new cheaper cost

Payment date is the same and your next bill will be at the cheaper rate and will be made up of the pro rata cost of your old tariff and your new tariff

The change should show in My O2 within 24 hours

Volt benefits will still apply as will possibly a 3 month extra such as Disney+

@chili

There are a few of us here that use that method.

I do 12 month contracts and upgrade at the end of  March,  avoiding the annual price rise

This is not O2 and we are all customers here similar to yourself and cannot answer account type queries.

Did mine mid-March, no price rise until April 2025

You used to be able to upgrade your tariff at any time

Unfortunately I took the £8 deal in December and now cannot upgrade unless I take a dearer tariff or Refresh contract

So I'm stuck with the price increase at the moment but it's only about 70p a month and I'm getting 80GB data

So I'll stick with this until next March and then go down the USwitch route again

@chili

If you upgrade now, your next price increase will be April 25.

This year the cut off date was Feb 8.

It depends. You could upgrade earlier this year than previous years. May be a change next year as rules are changing
