Huawei Mobile Pocket Hotspot

I purchased a Huawei mobile pocket hotspot last week and took it on holiday touring the north west of Scotland.  I was not able to get a signal on it in any of the areas I visited.  I appreciate that signal is poor, I also did not have a signal on my EE phone but would like to unlock it so that I could try other sim cards.  Is it possible to unlcok this device and if so how do i go about it   thank you
