I am trying to set up my sons blackberry's email account. It takes me into a screen titled enterpirise activation and asks for a password? Can somebody educate me please?

You might need to speak to CS if this is a new BB account as you need to have BIS provisioned on the account. More so if it is an unlocked or sim-free phone with a brand new sim. BTW, does the account on PAYG or Contract have a data bolt-on?
