If I upgrade my plan do you swap my existing plan for new upgraded plan and I will start paying for the upgraded plan ans the old plan cease

Yes, but it depends if it is an upgrade at the end of your minimum term or a change to your tariff.  

If at the end of minimum term it changes when you upgrade and you pay the new monthly cost. 

If its a tariff change mid way through your minimum term you start the new tariff at your next billing date.

If you upgrade then you start your new tariff almost immediately and your normal bill will be adjusted for any difference in cost
