I sent about 30 texts (maximum)from USA and have been chagrged for 171. I even had my "roaming" turned off at an approved O2 store before I left so there could be no confusion as I know this can cause issues.

Were the texts standard texts ie. 160 characters including spaces?

The OP wouldn't pay to receive texts with an O2 sim in the phone no matter which US network they were on. Sounds like data roaming was switched off not network roaming.

You never pay to receive texts on O2.

The question really is why have they sent 30 and been charged for 171.
I'm guessing it could have been a network issue.

Hence my first reply, maybe they were sent as long texts rather than standard ones.
