When does PAC code take effect?

I am leaving my current supplier (Sky) to join O2. My SIM-only is due to arrive this week but Sky says they will switch off my service within one working day of giving O2 the PAC Code. Does that mean I will have no service for a few days or does the PAC code not take effect properly until the new SIM is in the post?

Apologies if this is a simple question but I cannot find a simple answer. Thanks in advance for any help.

Knowing O2 as we do, nothing will happen until you chase them up.

I'd wait until your sim arrives then give them a call to start the process.

It will switch on whatever date O2 has given you for the port.

Well, the good news is it is the Weekend so no codes will be activated Saturday or Sunday

If you have given the code to O2 before around 5 today then you are looking at Monday or Tuesday.

Sky should text you the transfer date.

It matters not if you have the O2 SIM

This is not O2 and we are all customers here similar to yourself and cannot answer account type queries.

Thank you but I am still not sure if I will have any service if the new SIM does not arrive until Friday (as advised by O2).

What date have you been given for the port @eaglevelo ?

I only have "Your order will be delivered on 23/05/2025" - SIM-only order. Thet gave me a temporary number until my number is ported across. Is that when the PAC code comes into effect? Apologies for the questions - not ported for many years. Thansk for your patience.
