I have switch up and I want to change my phone, do I need the box my original phone came in?

It's no different to sending device to recycle. Only bare phone required.

If you've still got the original empty box in perfect condition, you might get a few quid for it on eBay. It's strange but 'phone boxes do have a value !

The OP is using switch up so the device plan will be cleared fully by O2.

I think that you have misunderstood @MI5. I am suggesting that as OP will have surplus box and cable, these could be sold on eBay if in perfect condition, similar to :-

The switch up of the device would go ahead regardless and the funds raised from selling the box and cable will be completely separate.
