When o2 send emails out monthly to let customers know their bill is ready, they SHOULD NOT in my opinion include the amount due in the email. Email is not a secure link.
My contract was through CPW and I am not on refresh. My emails do not include the amount however another member here (@Gerry) advises refresh emails do.
I no longer ever click on any link on an email. If I get an email I then go to my Web browser and access my account that way. Never on a link.

@Anonymous The emails I get from O2 each month since taking out my refresh contract nearly a year ago contain both the airtime and phone contract amounts to be collected by Direct Debit. Since these accord with the details I signed up for I am happy enough about that and I have no need to click on any of the links. In any event I normally now use the My O2 app on my phone to check account matters rather than PC.

@Is that a "refresh" thing @Anonymous?
I will edit my post now as it would appear to contain incorrect guidance.
I truly don't know @Anonymous - As I say it has been the case since I refreshed last year. I cannot remember what happened before that. I think I may just have got notfication that my new bill was available to view online.

I have received another email this evening, obviously from the same source. The scammers have removed the 24 hour call to action which will make it even more appealing to non-savvy recipients.

This is certainly not good @Anonymous
In my case I am (nearly) satisfied the message (which relates to an old PAYG account) is not a hoax as it was not offering me a refund or asking me to do anything specific. My concern was and is that the text includes a reference to the now defunct Lucy who, O2 us to believe, would not now be mentioned in proper, official communications from O2. It leaves just room enough for that niggling doubt. Given the current state of affairs about scam mail you'd think O2 would be extra careful to get the words right, or am I being too harsh on them? Here is the text (suitably edited and hyperlinks removed by me ).
Hello Mr Xxxxxxxx Yxxxxxxx
Your O2 bill for 07/02/15 is now ready. You can look at your bill here
To see your bill, you'll need the username and password you were given when you joined O2. If you've forgotten them, we can give you a reminder.
In total, your bill for this month comes to £nn.mm. We'll request this amount from your chosen account on, or just after, the date in your bill.
Is your bill more than you were expecting ? If so, here's a few reasons why this might be:

If you have any questions, just ask Lucy. She's our online virtual agent. You can also find out more about what's included in your bill with an online demonstration.
Best regards
O2

They are just hoping that all this goes quietly away with their continual denials that the information was a direct leak from O2. I'm surprised that the press and media aren't involved yet.
