How to unlock any device here Guide: Unlocking an O2 phone to use a different SIM card

You'll need an O2 sim in it and then when registered on network, fill out the manual form that's linked to.

Ok, just to check. I first buy o2 sim (only way?)and setup device. Request Unlock device to get code. Use code with alternative sim.

Basically, yes.

If you can borrow a SIM to put in it temporarily it will be the cheapest option, otherwise top up a free PAYG SIM.
