O2 Hotspots

Anonymous
Not applicable

Am trying to register for O2 hotspots but all I'm getting on my i phone 4s is to go to a hotspot to register.

Surely if you have an account with O2 you should be able to register for hotspots without wandering around looking for one?

Download the app mentioned here and register through the app. After that, you should connect automatically when in range https://www.o2wifi.co.uk/

The o2 wifi app is supposed to automatically log you into an o2 wifi hotspot, but I find it a bit hit and miss.

The reason you need to do it in a hotspot is becuase most public Wifi reads the MAC address from your wireless card when you sign up. Its like a wifi address for your phone / tablet. The MAC address is formated with letters and numebrs e.g. XX:11:YY:22:ZZ, then next time you are in a hotspot the wifi network remembers the MAC address and lets you on as you signed up before.

Only Android and Windows Phone apps can copy the MAC address and sign you up outside a hotspot. Apple removed this capability from apps a few years back (iOS 7 i think) for all apps.
