I don't know what is going on here and I'm not sure I believe it, but a thread has appeared elsewhere saying that O2 Webmail will be closing at the end of the year according to an O2 Web Chat advisor.

Maybe Chiara could check this out as people using this service may need to make other arrangements.

We are closing o2.co.uk email addresses as previously advised. The process started on an alphabetical basis from 1st November and we anticipate that this will be fully complete in the coming weeks.

Weeks? 😮

Ok, now I'm imagining some poor soul pressing delete one by one. 😞

Delete 1> reboot system> delete 2> reboot system> delete 3> reboot etc etc........Smiley Surprised

Perhaps I'm still remembering the router software upgrades from a couple of years ago.

Of course not all addresses are being switched off so they can't just throw a switch and shut down the server. wink

That's true but they had the same amount of time that customers were given to sort out new email accounts and contact everybody.

O2 set this time limit and have been unable to keep it.

This has created a load of bad feeling among their customers for no good reason and the PR office should be going crazy over the way this has been handled.

I asked the first question on the 15th August and we didn't get confirmation until the 3rd September, despite the fact it was being discussed in another forum as given out by a CSA to a customer.

I still didn't get an email re o2 email. I see that webtexts are no more (the link that still exists struggles to find nothing). Online address book in still there. Oh well it doesn't matter now I have found a cheap way to sent texts either on the PC or from a mobile app - Fishtext - 2p/text and strangely only 1p/text to NZ.

They said closed on 1st November but using Thunderbird I can still send and receive. Going to the o2 web site I can receive but not send. O2 customer service now say that access is being withdrawn alphabetically until final cut off on 25th November. Duh!

I see Oliver341 has noted in another thread that O2 Webmail outgoing no longer works for him and a test shows it is off for me too.

SMTP from an email client still works though.

I don't use O2 email as I have my own domain - which O2 will not allow me to send email from over their network!

I got around this by using the O2 outgoing server.  WIth that gone, how I am now going to send emails when connected to the O2 network?

I will also be contacting O2 direct about this but suspect the reply will be along the lines of "Here's a straw, suck it up!"

Gmail, Outlook.com and Yahoo can all send mail from third party addresses.
