I don't know what is going on here and I'm not sure I believe it, but a thread has appeared elsewhere saying that O2 Webmail will be closing at the end of the year according to an O2 Web Chat advisor.
Maybe Chiara could check this out as people using this service may need to make other arrangements.

@Anonymous, to answer your question Oliver, when a Home Broadband customer cancels (or moves to sky or migrates etc), their @o2.co.uk account will remain open but as a normal portal account.
@Anonymous @Toby
Can you confirm that o2.co.uk mailboxes will also remain open for broadband customers who cancelled 3 years ago?

Hi Oliver,
No, as they are no longer home broadband customers, their accounts will be considered a general portal account.
Hope that helps,
Toby

Another good part of O2 is about to vanish then. I'll have to check to see if I have anything important linked to my O2 email.
I wonder what will be left of O2 after all this 'down-sizing' is done. No BB, no email services, what next? I'm starting to feel quite tempted to migrate my cellphone-number to another provider.

I would rather they concentrated on a first class mobile service, that's where I think the investment should go, 98% indoor coverage by 2015.
4G could supersede fixed line broadband and email is freely available elsewhere.

I don't think the email service will be missed much. 20 MB storage, no SSL and no IMAP.

It was never something to write home about was it?
I just found it convenient at times.

And webmail was free of adverts, perhaps part of the reason it's closing.

If I'd realised O2 were hitting the financial brick wall I wouldn't have complained when they tried advertising on main site pages!
It didn't last very long though.

Yes I transposed O2 for Telefonica.
