New dongle not connecting

Anonymous
Not applicable
I have recently had to exchange my dongle for the fifth or sixth time due to problems staying or getting connected. This new dongle is different to the other ones I've had and when I put it in the usb port it comes up with messages saying power surge, usb has malfunctioned or it goes through the first stages of getting connected but doesn't get to the stage of "checking for wireless card".

Im thinking that the dongles have been too sophisticated for my old laptop. Any ideas anyone?

This is possible, you may not be getting enough power to the USB port.

What make and model is it, and what operating system do you have?
