Well, as I was searching for an old article of mine earlier, courtesy of The Wayback Machine and O2's 3G service (faster than 4G where I work!), something in my Web search threw this screen at me... I ignored it at the time, but did wonder about its veracity:

Anyone else had this age check thrown at them? Did you go through the procedure for verification?

O2 blocks archive.org because it is on the BBFC blacklist, I have reported it as an incorrect block several times but it is still blocked. It is also blocked by the other networks because they all use the BBFC blacklist for their filtering. Deviant art and 4chan are also blacklisted by the BBFC

I just call customer service and have it removed whenever I get a new contract.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

First time I've ever seen it, @jonsie and @MI5! Never had to remove an age block, as far as I know - but I do most of my searching on the Broadband at home, not O2's data service.

Yes, @LukeR, your suggestion that O2's blocking filters are getting in the way makes perfect sense - good call!

So I guess "removing the age block" probably won't make a difference in this case, @jonsie

If the site is just on the blacklist for 18's then yes, removing the age block will fix it.
