I have a message saying mobile data update failed. Your iPhone cannot make or receive calls or access mobile data until it has been updated . I have never had this message before. What should I do ?

Just found this which may help.
Connect the iPhone to a wi-fi network if it is not currently connected to one. Open the “Settings” app on the iPhone then go to “General” Choose “About” and scroll down to the 'Carrier' section, then wait a few moments, if a carrier update appears tap on “Update” to install it on the iPhone

Hope that helps

You can also try connecting your phone to iTunes on your PC or MAC.
