Myself and a colleague at work just recieved the same message from this number. Absolutely fake and if you ever receive anything like this, even if you think it's genuine, check first! The repercussions for blindly jabbing the URL in the message are avoidable... The message we recieved goes like this:

O2:We were unable to process your latest bill. In order to avoid fees, update your payment information via: https://[insert dodgy link here].com/?o2?=2

I'm not going to put the actual link in here just in case anyone clicks on it. This is not the first and won't be the last, but if anyone gets anything like this be sure to report it and otherwise ignore the message.

Hi @Preywinder

It’s a scam and has been reported frequently on here. O2 are looking into it.

Block the number and report it to 7726

Reporting a scam email, text or call

Some scams might pretend to be from O2, or from an organisation you already deal with. It's important that we see examples of phishing emails, texts and websites so we can investigate and shut down scammers. To report a suspicious email, text or website:

  • forward the text message, including phone number or company name, to 7726. It won’t cost you anything and it means we can investigate the sender
  • for emails, forward the message to the organisation that it claims to be from. You can look up the email address to send it to on that organisation’s website
  • for suspicious emails claiming to be from O2, create a new email draft with ‘Phishing’ as the subject. Attach the suspicious email and send it to phishing@o2.com
  • get in touch with the Information Commissioner’s Office by calling 0303 123 1113.

@Churchy Scammers will have a truckload of numbers. Not much you can do except follow the reporting advice above and block the number.
