You can add it as a bolt on.
Guide: How to find help & contact O2

Can I add O2 Switch Up partway through my plan?
If you’re on a Plus Plan or Ultimate Plan, you’ll automatically get O2 Switch Up when your plan begins.
If you’re on a Classic Plan, you can only add the Switch Up Bolt On when you first take it out, or if you’re still within your 14-day change of mind period.
You can upgrade your custom plan early by paying off your remaining balance and taking out a new Plus Plan or Ultimate Plan (getting Switch Up automatically at no extra cost) or a Classic Plan (and adding Switch Up as a Bolt On for an additional monthly cost).

Thanks for your response.
I'm on a custom plan. When I look at changing my tariff, I only see other custom plans - no classic, plus, or ultimate plans.
When looking at buying bolt ons, I don't see switch up as an option.
When you say I can pay off my remaining balance, are you referring to the balance of the phone? That's the only option I can see on my MyO2 app.

You should be able to add the bolt on.
If not showing as an option for you, call O2.
Contact the sales team as they can help with that – message them on Social Media if that works best for you -on Facebook (https://o2uk.co/O2CFB) , Twitter (https://o2uk.co/O2CTW) or Instagram (https://o2uk.co/O2CIG)
Or you can call them on 0800 081 0255
Thanks

When did you upgrade your phone to a classic plan, as you can only add it as you have been told within 14days of purchase, after that its not available, unless as @MI5 says you pay off your existing device plan, and then upgrade to a Plus or Ultimate Plan..
If on Sim Only you cant add it..
I do not work for o2 or any VMo2 /Telefonica/Liberty Global Company

I'm on a custom plan, mate. I started the contract about two years ago and I removed my SwitchUp a few months ago. Not sure how that fits in with what you described.
