Boostbox abroad?

will the boostbox only work via a UK IP address, or would it work abroad? no TUGO for business customers, so do i have to bend over and take North American roaming charges, or can I take the boostbox with me?

It will not work as it is only licensed to use o2's frequency range in the uk so in the usa it would be operating on another providers frequencies on 2100mhz 3g.
As such would break usa fcc rules.

You could get a 30 day sim only consumer tariff and put that sim in to your phone with tugo and divert all calls from business number to consumer number and the divert will be free and receiving calls over wifi will also be free and up to the allowance on the sim for outgoing. as sms are free to receive you can continue to use the business sim to receive sms.

But the main push should be for all business customers to push for tugo on business .

take the £150 cost for a boost box and compare to £11 a month on 30 day sim only cheapest tariff and cancel with 30 days notice if you only need it a few times a year and get a new one each trip.

Just my take.

Why not just get a local sim card assuming your phone is unlocked?

I can't believe the Boostbox would work abroad as they're only designed to work at the address that's been registered with O2.

If it is IP restricted I suppose a VPN is always an option.....

Not sure how legit that is with the T&C however.

I'm struggling to see how boostbox would help with roaming charges.

Much better option is to take an unlocked phone and use a US simcard or buy a cheap P&G phone there.

can't see anything which suggests i can't. after all, tugo users can use that anywhere and that's free. i've stumped up £150 for the boostbox!

as for foreign sim, i want it for staying in contact with the UK while out in Canada/US, so wouldn't be much cheaper, if any.

Actually, I agree.  Forgetting that the boostbox doesn't function like TuGo, just boosts the local O2 sim's signal.

So unless the signal is rubbish with the sim card in the place, not much use.

What about the fact it has to be registered to an address before it will work?

I've never heard of anyone trying a US address, I would love to know what support say! slight_smile

boostbox boosts the local signal? it provides a tunnel to O2 providing 3G services within a radius of the boostbox.

Ah yes of course, so in theory it should work!

So the VPN route may well work....

Interested to know the outcome of this wink
