I've just had this pointed out by a new member (thanks nedludd), it's a bit hidden away at the bottom of this page:

Wi-Fi services
The way we offer wifi services is changing. From 1st July 2013 access to BT Openzone hotspots will no longer be available with your O2 account. Visit http://www.o2.co.uk/coverage/o2wifi to find out more.

If this is true it's probably because O2 feel that their own wifi network, which I believe is free for everyone no matter what mobile provider you are with, is up to par with BT Openzone.

I can't see as yet that O2 Wifi is as widespread as BT Openzone.
Methinks it's because of the Broadband sale to Sky. Perhaps there was a clause in there somewhere?

Had an email about it this evening (29th)
I bet you get it back though when BT buy back O2 when Telephonica decide to get out of the UK.
