Downloading On-Demand Content on O2 4G from Sky Box

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi Everyone,

My parents have recently replaced their existing ADSL broadband services with an O2 4G service due to the horrdendous download speeds being incurred (6-7 hours to download a SD movie).

Since the change we cant seem to get any On-Demand content from either Sky Boxes in the household. Browsing content is fine but when "Download" is pressed it immediately fails with the error Technical fault - 10 (100).

Watching Sky content on a PC / Kindle works fine on teh O2 connection.

Does anyone have any ideas?

The setup and remediation steps taken so far are as follows.

Setup

Router - TP Link Archer MR200

ISP - O2

Signal - 4G Full

Speed - 40Mbps Down / 10Mbps Up

Data - 40GB per month 1GB used so far

Connection - Both sky boxes connected over Wireless to the MR200

I have tried the following to no avail:

  • Updated firmware on sky boxes
  • Tried plugging in sky boxes direct into router bypassing Wireless
  • Fiddled with settings on the router / Firewalls / Application Layer Gateways
  • Tried a different O2 APN (O2 Bypass)
  • Tried both SD and HD content
  • Rebooted the sky boxes
  • Rebooted the router
  • Updated router firmware
  • Tried different times of the day
  • Set reserved (static IP) on the Sky Boxes

Many thanks in advance.

O2 4g doesn’t work with Sky.
The appropriate ports appear to be blocked although o2 deny they block any at all.
Pop an EE sim in though and you’ll get connected immediately.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Thanks @MI5 for the heads up.

That is a shame as I like O2 and speeds are good at the location. EE's coverage is not so good but will give it a go. Are you aware of any other operators which are known to work with Sky on-demand?

Thanks

I haven’t tried any others mate but I would hazard a guess that Voda would work well too.
Probably shares the same o2 mast as yours too so signal should be good.
