Vodafone Smart 4 mini (unlocked and using with o2) - Unable to change or delete APN settings

Anonymous
Not applicable

Bought this phone as a temporary replacement.

Unlocked it to use with my o2 pay monthly sim.

Now heres the problem, the phone is not connecting to the internet when im out and about (no issues with wifi).

I have gone into the 'access point names' menu and I have four settings saved - o2 pay & go ; o2 pay & go mobile broadband; TESCO mobile (i have no idea why this one is on there as phone has never been used before and i've never had a tesco sim) and o2 MMS.

It wont allow me to delete any of them and when I select 'New APN' I can input all the required information but when selecting 'Save' it does not register.

I am hoping someone has had this problem and managed to overcome it...

Tested an o2 PAYG sim and the APN settings were sent straight away.

As you would expect from a voda branded phone - they will only want you to use it on their network.....
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

I have a feeling that you're not going to get this phone to work with an O2 Pay Monthly sim. If you aren't familiar with rooting, you could end up with a paperweight. If you only just bought it, return it to Amazon for a refund. For a little more money you can get an unlocked sim free Moto G, and you won't have these problems.

Vodafone Smart 4 Mini are clealy designed to work wth the Vodafone network only. As it is designed for the network there will be no alternative firmware in the mainstream.

You may struggle to get amazon to accept the device back for a refund as:

The seal on the box will be broken.
You have unlocked the phone.

Sell it to Cash Generator and buy some lunch from Greggs from their generous pay-out.

Amazon wouldn't accept it back anyway. They would say it is clearly advertised as a Vodaphone mobile

It would seem the only option is to sell the phone and take the financial hit or move to Vodafone.

Well as the OP stated this in their opening post..

Bought this phone as a temporary replacement.

I would stick with vodaphone as this is only temporary. Seems more sensible? wink

The OP also said in their opening post that they were trying to use the phone with their Pay Monthly O2 sim, so they're on at the minimum a monthly contract. Not much point in switching to Vodafone just for the sake of this phone.

Maybe not @Bambino  but returning it is a lost cause as Amazon will say the advert was perfectly clear....It does seem they will lose money whatever they do? I suppose it is all down to cutting your losses the least expensive way.....

(Not arguing you understand.....just making a point...) wink
