Hello,

Does anyone know how I can find out (before buying) if an unlocked DoCoMo Kyocera KY-01L will be allowed to connect to the O2 network?

  • 3G Network : UMTS HSDPA UMTS 800, 850, 1900, 2100 MHz
  • 4G Network : FDD-LTE 800, 2100(Band 1, 19)

It looks like it should be compatible, at least at 3G, but I've heard people have not been able to connect theirs to other networks in the UK.

Thank you.

There's no reason for O2 to block it but it will depend on the area you are in as to whether it will connect as not all bands used by O2 are supported.

To be fair, it's use will be limited, so not a device that I would buy anyway.

In theory, it should work on both 4g and 3g, in some areas at least, but it's not listed on https://willmyphonework.net/

O2 bands are:

800MHz

Band 20

4G

900MHz

Band 8

2G & 3G

1800MHz

Band 3

2G & 4G

2100MHz

Band 1

3G & 4G

2300MHz

Band 404G

3400MHz

Band 425G

Thank you, MI5. Given that some people don't seem to have been able to connect to other networks that should have worked in theory, do you know if there's any way of checking with O2 whether they would allow this device (apart from buying and trying)?

Thanks again. Do you know if there's any way to check what band(s) O2 uses in a particular area?

I don't believe that info is published anymore since OFCOM closed down their sitefinder site.

Happy to help @Mark15

and sorry it's not all good news as it's a funky little phone, but only really intended for the Jap market, I guess.

Sorry, that should have read "In case it's of interest to anyone else, I managed to find the info on what band(s) O2 uses in a particular area here: https://www.cellmapper.net/map."
